Once you start to spiritually adopt people, you will notice slow changes in the relationship with them as well as more of a connection between each other.
Here is a story about one man that I spiritually adopted as my father.
We will call him John and he worked with me for about five years. When I started working with him I was his boss, but he had been there longer and knew much more about how things worked there. This put me in a difficult situation as he had more experience, also he was a much older than I and he probably should have been my boss, but I was above him nonetheless. Our relationship was difficult at best, at first I had a hard time just dealing with him. I did like him though and felt like even though we grated each other he was helpful to me as well. I could not help but see him as a father figure and I adopted him spiritually as my father. Our relationship did not change over night, but slowly we both grew on each other and before long he was sharing his medical news with me as well as his relationship with God. The news about his health was bad and he asked me to pray over him; I prayed with him and his whole family. His family got closer to God and he was healed from being very close to death. Five months later, I saw him looking the best I ever saw him. He told me he had to get some work done at the hospital and that was the last time I saw him. His family told me that somehow he knew he was to die and called everyone to come see him and that night after he said goodbye to everyone he died, the eve of his birthday. He entered heaven on his birthday, I believe as he was much closer to God. The next day, I went to pray for his soul with my wife and she heard his distinctive cough while we were in the tabernacle. That same week I got another miracle from my spiritually adopted father in finding an office for my practice and the man who owned the building and rented it to me had the same name. God is great!
